Not the best garage door opener, the Genie 2022-TC ChainLift 800 does come with some features that make it worth your time. However, you will have to analyze it thoroughly before making a decision, so you will not regret it later on.
No one can deny the functionality of a garage door opener that keeps you from getting out of the car to manually open the door every time you get home, therefore, installing one at home can be a true help. Genie 2022-TC ChainLift 800 is a model that is worth considering because it comes with some nice features that ensure its performance. And with the $156 price tag, all it’s left is for you to decide if it’s the right one for your house.
This is a dual pinion gear chain-driven model that was built to ensure durability and performance. However, most of the customers who have chosen to install this device have complained about the early failures and the many problems they experienced with it. Although it uses a ½ horsepower motor that can easily handle a standard metal or wood sectional garage door that weighs less than 350 pounds, many users state that it works very slowly and can hardly lift the door. However, you should not label it as completely faulty, as the performance can vary from one unit to another. A good aspect is that it’s considerably silent, given that it’s a chain-drive system that tends to be noisier than belt-drive ones. Also, this device doesn’t come with a timer-to-close setting that closes the door in case you forget, and it lacks a backup power source that will sustain it in case of a power failure.
Safety and Security Features
Same as other garage door openers offered by Genie, the 2022-TC ChainLift 800 is equipped with two laser beam sensors that work together to keep you away from accidents. Many times adults, children, and pets are hurt by the closing garage door, but this will never happen with this system that uses the sensors to detect motion and to stop the door from closing. This feature can turn out to be annoying if you forget to remove the trash bin from near the garage, as the sensors will detect it and the doors won’t close. You don’t have to worry about children or pets being hurt by the garage door, all the more because the system has a pressure sensor that immediately opens the door if it traps something under it.
A great security feature is the Genie Intellicode rolling code technology that prevents unauthorized persons from opening your garage door. How it does that, you wonder? By automatically changing the access code every time you use it, so there will be a new code next time you operate the system.
If you have 2 cars at home, or you like keeping a backup remote in case you lose one, you can relax because it comes with two 3-button remotes. It also comes with a control panel that lets you turn off the lights and lock the door so it can’t be opened with the remote, which is a good thing if you lose the remotes or if you are going on a vacation and you want the door to remain locked. What is bad about the control panel is that it has 3 small buttons instead of a large one, so it could be difficult for you to use it if you are holding groceries or other items. You will also get a key-less entry pad so you can set your own PIN code every time you want to lock the garage door. For added convenience, there are wo bulbs with a maximum of 60 watts each, so you can have visibility when you enter the garage.
Warranty and Support
The warranty isn’t as long as you would assume, considering the warranty offered by other manufacturers. The motor is covered by a 10-year warranty only, while the parts and the chain enjoy a 2-year warranty, unlike other models that can come with a warranty up to 5 years. In case you need Genie to clarify any matter, you can contact them by email or phone. There is an owner’s manual available for download on the manufacturer’s website, so you should get the hang of this system quickly.
This might not be the best system out there, but it still does a more than decent job when it comes to ensuring the protection of the garage. Also, it doesn’t cost much, which makes it the perfect choice for those who are on a tight budget but who still want to feel safe in their homes. But don’t think that it doesn’t come with any impressive features at all because it actually does. The laser beam sensors that it comes with ensures that it won’t ever close when there are objects in its path, so you can rest assured that your children and pets will be always safe. All in all, it might not be the best model on the market, but considering the price that it comes at, it’s an option worth taking into consideration.
